If you use more honey and maple syrup now that it’s colder, good for you.
And why is this good for you?
Well, we’re usually told to cut way down on or avoid altogether any types
of sweeteners, be it sugar, syrup or honey, but researchers say in moderation,
honey and syrup can do great things for your health.

What types of things?
How about protection against dementia, or boosting gut health.
Still not convinced?
No problem, just continue reading for more details.

First up, the syrup:
Do be shy, if weight gain isn’t a concern, go ahead and pour a little
more syrup over your pancakes, oatmeal, baked goods or into your
hot cocoa, green tea or coffee.
It (syrup) can do great things for your brain.
Things like reduce brain inflammation and lower levels of a protein
that’s been linked to Alzheimer’s disease.

And the honey:
a) Feel a sore throat coming on? Or are you a few days into
a cold and feeling quite miserable? Or maybe you’re coughing
nonstop, whichever symptom you’re dealing with just take
a Tbs. twice daily or put a little into your tea or hot lemon water.
Researchers say that honey contains enzymes and natural antibiotics
that energize immune cells and destroy germs on contact.
So, stir it into a warm drink or eat it right off a spoon and that
pesky cough, sore throat and other symptoms could ease in 2 or 3 days.

The second use for the sweet Rx: Improve gut health.
Gut health is mentioned almost as much as weight loss today and for
good reason, improving gut health can do a number of things for your
health, like…better digestion, moods (brain fog, less depression
and blue moods) and improved brain function, (memory).
Researchers say mix a little honey into a good quality yogurt.
Why yogurt? It (yogurt) is rich in probiotic bacteria that feed on sugars
like those found in honey and when subjects ate the two foods,
they had more of the healthful bacteria in their guts resulting in
the above mentioned benefits.

One more tip:
Although it’s tempting to try and find the best (and cheapest) deals
on honey and maple syrup, scientists say it’s best to spend a little more
and get top quality products. Get real maple syrup and unpasteurized
and raw dark honey. (Manuka).

There you have it, tips to improve your health with sweeteners.
Enjoy them both this holiday season and get healthier to boot.
