If the dark and dreary winter months are making you less calm and unhappy,
then you may need to add some sweetness to your life.
What type of sweetness, you ask?
Honey.

That’s right, researchers say that taking a tsp. when you feel a little rattled
and unsettled, can help you relax within an hour.
The researchers say that honey contains nerve-soothing plant compounds
called flavonoids, which calm the adrenal glands, tamping down the release
of the stress hormone cortisol.
So, if your stress levels are rising, grab a jar of honey from the pantry
and take a tsp. or put it on your morning oatmeal or in your tea.

Another tip:
If you don’t need calm, but are experiencing more sickness, (colds and flu),
then you also need honey. Enjoying a bit of honey while suffering from a
sore throat and other symptoms, it (honey) helps ease that scratchy feeling
(in your throat) and helps you recover faster from sniffling, coughing and
body aches.

There you have it, 2 things that the sweet elixir known as honey can help with
and if you really want to keep your health in tip-top shape, you may want to
make the following dish.
The dish:
Healthy vegetables with honey.
Medical professionals say we should be getting more veggies into our
diets, so what’s better than baked (good-for-you) veggies topped with a
honey glaze.

The recipe:
Honey-Dijon Vegetable Medley!
Ingredients:
3 Tbs. Olive oil
2 Tbs. of honey
1 Tbs. of Dijon Mustard
2 cloves of minced garlic
8 oz. of thin carrots, halved lengthwise
8 oz. of parsnips, peeled, halved lengthwise, cut into
3″ long sticks
8 oz. of Brussels Sprouts, trimmed and halved
1 tsp. of fresh thyme leaves
Lemon zest curls, for garnish, optional
To make:
Heat oven to 350 *F. Line rimmed baking sheet with parchment
paper. In a large bow, whisk the olive oil, honey, mustard, garlic
and 1/4 tsp. of salt and 1/4 tsp. of black pepper until combined;
toss in the vegetables. Stir until lightly coated.
Transfer the vegetable mixture to the baking sheet. Roast, turning
occasionally, until just tender, about 15 mins. Transfer the carrots
and parsnips to a serving platter; fan in a circle. Place the Brussels
sprouts in the center, sprinkle the veggies with thyme, and if desired,
add some lemon zest curls for garnishment.

And lastly, you may want to just pick up any old low-cost jar of honey,
but don’t, when it comes to your health, you should be willing to spend
a little more.
Look for dark, raw honey. Even better: If you can find some Manuka honey,
open up your wallet or purse and buy it.
