Now is the time to take advantage of all of the fruit and vegetables that are available
at your local grocery stores, farmers’ markets and roadside stands, and one of
the fruits’ you should buy is Watermelon.

Why Watermelon?
Because it’s good for you. How good?

a) Natural Hydration-
We’re bombarded with edicts from health-care professionals about drinking 6 to 8 (8 oz.)
glasses of water every day, but honestly, many of us aren’t able to get that many glasses
of water into our system, and for you there’s watermelon. You can get hydrated from
the endless supply of Summer fruits and vegetables-especially watermelon.
Watermelon is a whopping 92% water, so if you’re concerned about staying
hydrated, start eating more watermelon and other summer fruits. (Peaches, plums,
cantaloupe, honeydew melon, tomatoes, cucumbers, green squash, apricots and berries).

b) Low In Calories-
Concerned about the calorie counts of foods-especially during the Summer?
No problem, just eat more watermelon. A medium slice of water comes in
at under 50 calories per serving and if carbs and sugar concerns you, here
are the stats. Carbs-11g per serving, Fiber-0.6g, Prot-0.9g and Sugar-9.4g.

c) Anticancer Effects-
Lower your odds of certain cancers by eating some nutrient-rich watermelon
each day.

d) Improve Heart Health-
Lower your odds of heart attacks and heart disease with a serving of watermelon
a few times a week. Watermelon is loaded with potassium, a nutrient that ushers
salt out your body, which helps the heart work better and more efficiently.

e) Reduce Inflammation-
Reduce inflammation in your body and you lower your odds of getting
a number of illnesses and diseases. Eat some watermelon each day
to lower inflammation.

f) Prevent Macular Degeneration-
Eye health should be a concern like heart health, and to reduce your odds
of getting macular degeneration, eat more watermelon.

g) Workout Aid-
Reduce lactic acid in your body.
Does muscle soreness after a workout keep you from working out?
Well, cherry juice has been the recommended natural remedy for quite
some time, but researchers tested a number of other fruits and have
found that watermelon delivers the same, post workout benefits.
So, eat a slice or two after a grueling workout or juice some
watermelon and have that instead.

h) Healthy Skin-
Drying skin and thinning skin are major concerns for women and men as they age,
and if this is a concern of yours, try watermelon before opting for an expensive cream
or cosmetic procedure. Watermelon contains plenty of water and that’s what the
largest organ (the skin) needs to stay taut, supple and wrinkle-free.

i) Improve Digestion-
Gut health has been in the news for more than a decade and if gut health
is something you’re interested in, eat more watermelon to improve yours.

j) Natural Sleep Aid-
As mentioned earlier, many alternative health providers recommended
tart cherry juice (an hour before bed) as a safe and natural sleep aid.
And today, some health-care providers say that some watermelon
or the juice (an hour before bed) can help you fall asleep and stay asleep.

k) A Summer Smoothie-
Have too much watermelon and no room in the refrigerator or on the
counter? No problem, you can make up some refreshing and healthy
smoothies to get rid of it (Watermelon).
