It’s springtime and for many that means getting outdoors and being more
active and if you don’t feel energetic or motivated, then you may want
to check your thyroid.

Your thyroid?
Yes, boosting this gland helps optimize energy, mood and metabolism
and according to the latest research, boosting thyroid health also reduces
arthritic pain.

So, if you’re looking to fine-tune your thyroid and not looking to spend
money on doctor-prescribed meds or pricey vitamins, then you should
head to your local grocery store and pick up the following: some tuna
and/or turkey.

Why tuna and turkey?
Both are loaded with selenium, a mineral that’s crucial for converting thyroid
hormone into T3, its active, energizing form. Adding more selenium-rich foods
to your diet can normalize thyroid function in about 3 months.
Not a fan of turkey or tuna? Other foods high in selenium: Brazil nuts, (eat only 2
a day), beef, pork, chicken, enriched pasta, whole-grain bread and mushrooms.

Add this spice-
The spice:
Ginger. Ginger has been in the news for quite some time thanks to all of the
benefits one can get from it, but today, researchers say that it can rev the
thyroid so effectively, your energy levels will soar by 200% in a matter of 2 to 3
weeks. Compounds in ginger, (gingerol and Shogoals) defend against
inflammation that cause the thyroid to deteriorate.

Take a Stroll-
Another exercise tip. As with most advice about improving your health,
exercise is almost always mentioned and the thyroid gland like a big belly
or legs that are parked at a desk most of the day need exercise.
We’re not talking about doing Cross-fit or running 5Ks, no- all that’s
required is a leisurely walk (preferably under the Sun) or stay indoors
and do some dusting and cleaning for 20 to 30 mins.
Start moving your body now and you can raise the thyroid gland in
about 8 weeks.

A Recipe For a Healthier Thyroid Gland-
Now that the warm weather is here, it’s time to start making meals
that doesn’t require you to turn on the oven.
The recipe:
Loaded Southwest Tuna Salad!

1/4 cup of lime juice
1/4 cup of olive oil
1 cucumber (English or regular)
1 large tomato
1 can of Tuna (in water), remove all of the water
1 cup of black olives
1 cup of bagel chips or gluten-free crackers or chips
1 can of corn, rinsed and drained
To make:
In a large bowl, whisk the lime juice, olive oil, 1/4 tsp. of salt and 1/4 tsp.
of black pepper until combined. Cut tomato in half and slice into 1/4″ thick
half-moon slices. Cut the cucumber into 1/8″ thick slices.
Next, flake the tuna with a fork. Cut olives in half lengthwise. Crush the bagel
or gluten-free chips into bite-size pieces. Add the cucumber, tuna, chips, olives,
and corn to the bowl, sprinkle on some vinaigrette and toss well.
Enough for 4 servings.

One more tip:
If you tire of tuna salad, use some of the other thyroid-boosting foods
and create some tasty meals.
Stir-fry some (real) turkey, chicken or beef (no deli meat turkey),
and mushrooms and toss them with some top quality pasta.
