Don’t let the threat of the flu get you down this weekend or the rest of the winter.
And one way to do that is by eating well.
You know, fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, lean meats, fatty fish,
green tea and water.

And to help you on your flu and cold prevention journey, purchase the following items
while at the grocery store and make this spicy soup recipe, it’s a soup you can make
this weekend and eat all week.

The soup:
Spicy Black Bean Soup!
Ingredients:
1 Tbs. of olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
1 jalapeno pepper, chopped*

1 qt. of vegetable broth
2 cans of black beans (15 oz.) rinsed and drained
2 tsp. of ground cumin
* Make the jalapeno less hot by removing the seeds.

To make:
In a pot, heat oil over medium heat. Add onion and jalapeno; cook, stirring
for 7 to 8 mins. Add the garlic; cook 30 secs. Add the broth, beans and cumin;
bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Cover; cook 10 mins. Let cool
slightly. In batches, puree in a blender until almost smooth. Return to the pot;
and over medium-low heat, cook, stirring until hot, about 5 mins.
If desired, you can garnish each bowl of soup with a few slices of avocado
and fresh cilantro.

Garlic.
