If your cat or dog has a minor health issue you may want to try
one of the natural remedies listed below and hopefully,
save yourself hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

a) Teary Eyes-
Oh no, your dog has an eye that’s leaking, (i.e. watery eye)
and the likely reason: A blocked tear duct caused by allergies.
To help him or her, pour a little coconut oil into a dish and then
dip a cotton swab in the oil and wipe it around the inner corner
of his (or her) eye. Yes, a little oil may get in her or his eye,
it’s okay, it’s harmless, the oil will stimulate tears, which help
unclog the duct, putting an end to the watery discharges.

b) Joint Pain-
Yes, your pets’ joints will behave just like adult joints, they’ll
become stiffer and achier as they age and if this is the case in
your household, head to the pantry and get some safflower oil.
The recommended dose: 1 tsp. per 10 pounds of body weight.
Do this daily for 3 days, then repeat once a week until you see
improvement. The oil’s omega-6 fatty acids ease joint pain.
Important tip:
Some vets say 1 tsp. per 10 pounds of body weight is ideal,
but to be sure, talk to your Vet before trying this home remedy.

c) Pet Acne-
Think it only happens to teens, not so, acne also strikes some pets
and if you see blackheads on your cats’ chin, get some top quality
dark honey. The Rx from top vets: To start–Disinfect your cat’s chin with
Betadine antiseptic, (look for it at drugstores), then apply the dark
honey. If the breakouts continue, it may be due to stress or allergies
and might require more specialized care from your Vet.

d) Itchy Ears-
Another problem for dog owners: Constant scratching of the ears
or shaking the ears. If this is happening to your beloved pet, the cause
may be ear mites–which are pesky organisms that thrive in moist environments.
To help him (or her), mix 4 Tbs. of rubbing alcohol, 2 Tbs. of apple cider vinegar
and 2 Tbs. of water, then pour over a stack of cotton rounds in an airtight container.
Once a week, use one to swipe around your dog’s ears. The alcohol dries out the ear
canal while the vinegar kills mites on contact.
Important tip:
Just like the previous tip, if you don’t see any improvement, schedule an
appointment with the Vet.

e) The Dreaded H Balls-
Most cat owners know about hair balls and if you’re a new cat owner, you too,
will soon learn about them, especially as we head into the Spring and Summer
months, and one of the best “natural” ways to get rid of them is with jelly.
Petroleum jelly to be exact or by its other name: Vaseline.
To ease his (or her) discomfort, place a small amount of vaseline on
their nose. FiFi or Tabby will lick the vaseline off, and the petroleum jelly —
(an ingredient in many hair-ball remedies)-will add lubrication to help the hair balls
pass more easily.

That’s it- 5 natural and low-cost tips to keep your furry friends in tip-top
shape for years to come.
