If giving up cake (and other sweets) is your New Year’s resolution, then you should
try drinking your cake.
Drinking your cake?
Yes, some bars across the U.S. are making sweet, creamy drinks that taste just
like a slice of chocolate, birthday, coconut and even strawberry shortcake and
they call these “Caketails.”
So, if you’re looking to get the taste of that slice of choc. or birthday cake, but don’t
want to down all of those calories, this is your best option, A “Caketail!”
Option for Birthday Cake-
Cake Batter Martini!
Soft cake, rich frosting, pretty sprinkles…This sweet drink translates the nostalgic
flavor of birthday cake into a grown-up treat. The star of this drink is cake-flavored
vodka. Look for it at high-end liquor stores or online.
Ingredients:
Sprinkles
1 oz. of whipping cream
1 1/2 oz. of cake-flavored vodka, such as Three Olives
1 oz. of amaretto
1 1/2 oz. of creme de cacao
1/2 oz. of white chocolate liqueur
To make:
Place some sprinkles on a plate. Dampen martini glass rim with tiny bits
of whipped cream; swirling sprinkles to coat. In cocktail shaker filled halfway
with Ice, add vodka, amaretto, creme de cacao, whipping cream and liqueur,
shake well. Strain into prepared glass.
Option for Chocolate Cake-
Chocolate Cake Cocktail!
Chocolatey cake covered in buttery-rich chocolate frosting has been enjoyed by
millions over the years and if you still want the chocolatey goodness without the
calories, this is the drink (dessert) for you.
Ingredients:
Crushed Cookies, (mix of chocolate and sugar cookies
Chocolate syrup
2 1/2 of chocolate-flavored vodka
2 Tbs. of dark creme de cocoa
1 Tbs. of half & half
To make:
Place cookies on a plate. Dampen a martini glass rim with the syrup; swirl in
cookies to coat. In cocktail shaker filled halfway with Ice, add vodka, creme
de cacao and half & half; shake well. Strain into prepared glass and enjoy.
Sprinkle some of the cookies on top for a visual effect.
Option for Coconut Cake-
Coconut Cake Cocktail!
If you’re a fan of coconut and pineapple, then you’ll love this drink.
Ingredients:
Shredded coconut, sweetened
lemon or lime wedge,
1 oz. of sparkling wine
1 1/2 oz. of coconut vodka- unable to find?
add some coconut water to the vodka
1/2 oz. of hazelnut liqueur
1/2 oz. of pineapple juice
Place the shredded coconut on the plate. Dampen the martini glass by running
a lemon or lime wedge along it; swirl in the coconut to coat. In cocktail shaker
filled halfway with Ice, add vodka, white hazelnut liqueur and juice; shake well.
Strain into prepared martini glass; sprinkle a little sparkling wine on top.
Option for Strawberry Shortcake-
Strawberry Shortcake Cocktail!
This Summer dessert is now transformed into a tasty adult beverage.
Ingredients:
1 graham cracker, crushed
lemon or lime wedge
2 oz. of vanilla vodka
1 1/2 oz. of white chocolate liqueur
Dash of grenadine or maraschino cherry juice
1 tsp. of strawberry jam
Fresh or frozen strawberries.
To Make:
Place the crushed graham cracker on a plate. Dampen martini glass rim by running
a lemon or lime wedge along it; swirl in graham crackers to coat. In cocktail shaker
filled halfway with ice, vodka, white chocolate liqueur, grenadine and strawberry jam;
shake well. Strain into prepared martini glass. Garnish with a fresh or frozen strawberry
and a sprinkle of graham crackers on top.
Option For Chocolate Coffee Cake-
Chocolatey Coffee Cake!
No need to give up coffee cake, just substitute it with this.
To Make:
In a medium pot over medium heat, warm 3 cups of half & half
until steaming. Avoid letting it boil. Whisk in 4 envelopes or 4 tsps. of
dark cocoa mix, 1/2 cup of Bailey’s coffee liqueur and 1 tsp. of instant coffee.
Serve in mugs and garnish each mug with a bit of whipped cream and
chocolate shavings. Makes 4 servings.
