The Ancient Fruits of Israel!

You’re probably aware of the Mediterranean diet: whole grains, vegetables,
lean proteins, (fish) nuts and seeds and good fats, (olive oil), well today,
researchers say that the Israeli diet (which is much the same as it was
in Biblical times) may be even better for you.

A mix of Italian, North African and Middle Eastern cuisines, the typical
Israeli consumes more produce, especially fruit, and less saturated
fat than people in any other Western country.

So, are you wondering what makes this diet so good for health and
well-being?

a) Grapes-
Keep your heart in tip-top shape.
Israelis eat a lot of grapes, they also use grapes to make juice and wine.
And if you’re concerned about blood pressure and high cholesterol levels,
consume more grapes. Grapes contain resveratrol, an anti-inflammatory
antioxidant that keeps arteries free of plaque and pectin, a cholesterol-lowering
fiber. And one more benefit: Grapes also contain Pterostilbene, healthy
compounds that lowers the blood fats linked to heart attacks. And this
explains why Israelis have one of the lowest rates of heart disease in the world.

b) Pomegranates-
Say goodbye to aches and pains.
You may love the juice, but make sure to eat the seeds, as they pack a powerful
antioxidant punch. If your joints are bothering you, consume more pomegranates.
Packed with tannins, polyphenols and bioflavonoids, a trio that relieves inflammation,
helps repair tissue damage and even inhibits the enzymes that cause cartilage
breakdown. Another benefit: Pomegranates stop progression of osteoarthritis
if you already have it and helps to prevent it in the first place.

c) Figs-
Keep bones thick and strong.
Are you drinking milk and eating cheese in the hopes it keeps bones from
thinning and becoming weak? The new remedy: Give cheese a rest and
start eating figs. Figs contain about as much bone-building calcium
as a glass of milk, plus extra minerals like magnesium, needed for calcium
absorption and potassium, which locks calcium into bones.
Another benefit: If you’re a woman concerned about postmenopausal
fractures-eat more figs. The fruit lowers the risk of a fracture by about 30%.

d) Dates-
Boost energy levels and mental alertness.
If one of these fruits has to be called a “superfood” then it has to be dates.
The sugary treats contain sky-high amounts of mood-boosting minerals
like zinc and B vitamins. Plus, if you want to feel relaxed, lower stress levels
and tension and reduce blood pressure, start adding dates to your daily
menus. And lastly, dates also contain beneficial compounds that attach to
free radicals in your system and usher them out of your body, lowering
your risk of dozens of illnesses.
