If you’re into health and fitness, then you’re well aware of the “Blue Zones”
you know, 7 particular regions in the world where people make it to
100 years of age without any serious illnesses or diseases.

And if you’re hoping to make it to age 90, 100 and beyond, then you too,
may want to start eating the one food that people in these 7 regions
eat on a daily basis.

The food:
Beans.
No surprise to those familiar with the blue zones, but today,
researchers from two top American universities have some
incredible research to back it up.

That’s right, researchers from Harvard and Tufts universities
(both schools are in Massachusetts) have analyzed data from
more than 48,000 women, and learned that the women who ate the
most plant proteins were 45% more likely to be healthy into their
later years, and this is significantly higher than those who ate more
animal proteins.

The researchers also go on to explain that plant protein is rich in fiber
and other micronutrients lacking in animal protein, plus it’s linked to
reductions in cholesterol and blood pressure and improvements
in insulin sensitivity-all of which can ward off chronic conditions
common with age.

So, if you’re still undecided on the benefits of giving up meat to
eat more beans, this is the data you need.
Important tips:
No need to go totally vegetarian, but make sure to add beans to
your daily menus starting with once a week and then working up to
2 or more days each week.

Another benefit, that’s rarely mentioned, fresh or even canned beans
are way cheaper than packages of chicken, pounds of beef, some
wild-caught salmon or 2 steaks twice a week, so head to a big-box store,
(Publix, Kroger’s, Aldi, Costcos, and B.J.’s and stock up.
Beans will keep in a cabinet or in the pantry for months, maybe even years.

And lastly, if you think using beans to add to soups, stews or atop rice
are your only options, you’re wrong. Thanks to the internet (YouTube.com)
there are dozens of ways to make beans taste satisfying and incredible, so
please head there and learn a few recipes.
