The Low-Carb Rx For America’s Favorite Comfort Food!
What is your favorite comfort food?
Mac & Cheese.
Burger and Fries
Hot Dogs and Pork N’ Beans
or
Meat Loaf & Mashed Potatoes.
None of the above.
Well then, it must be pizza.
That’s right, according to recent polls, 65% of Americans name pizza as their
favorite comfort food and if you’re in that 65% group but have given it up due
to the calories and the carbs, hold on, there’s some good news.
The good news:
You can have pizza without the fattening and doughy crust and not worry about it.
And if you’re thinking- cauliflower as the crust, you’re wrong.
Thanks to the keto diet and some incredibly talented chefs and cooks out there,
you can now make pizza and eat it too.
The new keto pizza uses cheese and eggs as the crust and not almond flour
or cauliflower, so if you’ve thought your days of having a slice (or three) of your
favorite comfort food were long gone, it’s time to rejoice, dust off the
baking sheet and make some low carb “Keto pizza.”
The recipe:
Crack 6 to 8 eggs into a large bowl, add 1 cup of shredded cheese, (mozzarella,
cheddar, or Monterey Jack) Mix well and spread on a parchment lined
circular or regular cookie sheet, spray the parchment paper with nonstick spray (Pam)
Turn oven to 350*F and place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for
5 to 7 mins. and remove from the oven, let cool for a few mins.
Doing this allows the cheese and eggs to solidify, which makes it easier
for the sauce and other ingredients to sit on top and not drop.
After that, just add the sauce,* and the toppings you prefer, mushrooms,
hamburger *, oregano, green or red peppers, basil and then more cheese.
Bake for 15 to 20 mins. at 350*F. Or until cheese is golden brown.
Remove from the oven and serve with a green salad.
* Sauce- To make this pizza as low-carb as possible, many people use the
lowest carb sauce out there and that sauce is Rao’s, available at any supermarket.
* Hamburger or sausage- cook the hamburger and sausage (until no longer pink)
for a few minutes since this pizza only takes about 15 to 20 mins.
And what has become customary for us, we’ll now tell you some of the benefits
you’ll get from the toppings you may (or may not) put on your pizza.
a) Mushrooms-
If cancer and immunity issues are something that concern you, then you may want
to add mushrooms to your low-carb pizza and some other dishes as well.
White button, crimini or porcini mushrooms contain compounds that suppress an
enzyme that increases estrogen levels, too much of which is linked to ovarian and
breast cancer. Just one 2 to 3 cup serving daily may prevent you from ever getting
these 2 cancers.
And for your immune system: Mushrooms also contain powerful compounds that
keep your immune system in tip-top shape.
b) Green Peppers-
Bell peppers melt fat and keep hair thick and luxurious. Bell peppers are loaded with
vitamin C, which reduces levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which is linked
to excess belly fat, while increasing levels of the fat-burning amino acid carnitine.
And for your locks: Again, the high vitamin C levels help you reduce stress levels,
even the stress levels that cause hair to fall out.
c) Oregano-
Some people prefer basil, parsley or thyme as the only green herb on their pizza,
but start using more oregano and fight germs. Now that we’re super sensitive
about germs, (Co-Vid) it only makes sense that we do everything possible to try and
keep them away by any means available. Oregano is loaded with natural anti-
bacterials (thymol and carvacrol) and even fights E coli and staph as effectively
as antibiotics. Ounce for ounce oregano has 30 times more antioxidants than
blueberries and spinach.
d) Cheese-
Often criticized as a fattening food, but a top quality type of cheese not only
tastes great, but can also boost your levels of happiness.
Cheese is a combination of calcium and vitamin D, two nutrients that soothe anxiety
and eases PMS symptoms by 45%. Plus, it (cheese) contains tryptophan and tyrosine,
stress busting amino acids that your body uses to produce calming serotonin and
happiness-boosting dopamine.
e) Olives-
Want youthful skin and to fend off Alzheimer’s? Eat more olives. Many people prefer
the oils, but a small amount of (olive oil) can add a lot of calories, so have a few olives
each day. Olives contain oleuropein, an antioxidant that shields against memory loss.
And for your skin, the beneficial antioxidants in olives help keep skin looking 5 to 12
years younger.
Important tip: after a bath or shower, apply olive oil to your damp skin for more youth-
enhancing benefits.
f) Onions-
You probably know all about onions and garlic’s ability to prevent colds and flu,
but are you aware that onions can also strengthen bones, help hair grow
and prevent men from ever getting prostate cancer.
Onions reduce post-menopausal bone breakdown better than osteoporosis
meds. And more good news: women who eat onions on a daily basis, have better
bones density and suffer fewer hips fractures than women who avoid them.
And for hair growth: Compounds in onions help both men and women grow
longer and thicker hair, and lastly, men who eat more onions- especially raw,
(starting when they’re young) have way fewer problems with their prostates
as they get older.
g) The Sauce-
If you’re a regular here, then you’ve probably seen a post or two about the benefits
of cooked tomatoes, and one of the best benefits is that it’s a natural and safer
sunblocker. (Consider it sunblock you can eat). And that’s not all- it can also help
you look a few years younger. Just a cup a day decreases the sun-related skin
damage (the no. 1 culprit behind fine lines, uneven skin tone and age spots).
Give credit to lycopene, the powerful antioxidant that gives tomatoes their
bright red color; it acts as a natural sunscreen, preventing UV rays from breaking
down the skin’s underlying support structures, elastin and collagen.
