Believe it or not we’ll be celebrating another Thanksgiving and
if you plan on having turkey, here are 3 healthy benefits you can get from it
(the turkey).
Benefit no. 1-
Weight Loss.
Turkey and other protein-rich foods can help you burn more calories
all day long. Eating protein-rich foods will help you shed 10% of your body
weight in about 3 months.
Protein at every meal boosts metabolism so you melt fat faster-and it
(protein) keeps your metabolism revved up even as you shed pounds,
preventing the slowdown that causes weight regain.
Also helpful- if you plan on having side dishes like potatoes or rice on
Thanksgiving, they can also help you lose weight.
How so? Carbohydrates that are cooked, and then refrigerated,
and then eaten the next day turn into something called “resistant starch”-
a type of fiber that’s not digested, so you get full eating it without paying
for it by taking in too many calories.

Benefit no. 2-
Better Moods.
Many people don’t think of turkey as a food that can boost moods,
but eat it without all of the carb-heavy sides, (Mac & Cheese, stuffing,
Sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, rolls, gravy, etc.) and it most certainly
can change your sad and negative moods. Turkey is rich in amino acids,
including tryptophan and phenylalanine, which your body converts into
mood-lifting brain chemicals. So, if you’re a little down in the dumps and
need something to lift your spirits, have a few slices of turkey.
(especially the white meat).

Benefit no. 3-
Improved Sleep-
Are you struggling to get to sleep and stay asleep?
Are you thinking of asking your doctor to prescribe sleeping pills?
Well, before you go the medicinal route, try the all-natural and delicious
Rx known as turkey. It turkey contains tryptophan, which is an amino
acid that increases our melatonin, a hormone released by the pineal gland
that controls our wake and sleep cycle.
So, about 60 to 90 minutes before bed, have a slice or two of turkey
and a cup of tart cherry juice, (another natural product that works
like a sleeping pill) and you’ll get to sleep faster and stay asleep.
Important tip: Buy natural tart cherry juice at any grocery store and
pour 1/4 cup into a glass and then add 1/2 cup of water and drink it.
