If you’re concerned about your hubby, dads, brothers or male neighbor’s health,
then you may want to take a look at this post.
Why?
You can help them on their path towards better health starting this Sunday,
the Superbowl.

Superbowl Sunday to get healthier?
Yes.
But wait, isn’t the Superbowl a time to eat your fill of wings, hot dogs,
quesadillas, pizzas and brownies and wash it down with soda and beer?
Yes, but this year, you can also switch things up, and give the man in your life
a usual football treat that’s been revamped to improve health.

The popular football treat:
Salsa.
That’s right, although it (salsa) is typically tomato-based, innovative and
creative types are now flooding supermarket shelves with fruit-based
salsas and if you’re looking for ways to incorporate more fruit into
your daily menus (and the new year), then you must read this post.

Listed below are three fruit-based salsas that can be eaten on big game days
(like the Superbowl or NBA finals) or anytime a healthy snack craving hits.

The 3 Salsas:
Salsa No. 1-
Pineapple-Mint Salsa!
This is a pretty looking salsa thanks to the pineapple and bell peppers
and can be eaten with teriyaki beef skewers or pulled pork sandwiches.
To make:
In a medium-bow, combine 2 cups of 1/4″ diced pineapple, 1/2 cup of diced
bell pepper, (yellow, red or green), 1 to 2 Tbs. of chopped mint, 1 tsp. of minced
jalapeno,* (or more to taste), 1 Tbs. of lime juice and salt to taste.
Mix well (with a big spoon) and enjoy.
* Jalapeno- If you and your guests prefer the heat from jalapenos, don’t toss out
the seeds, but if they prefer milder salsa, toss out the seeds.

Salsa No. 2-
Tropical Fruit Salsa!
If your Superbowl party is going to be healthy, then you may want to serve
fish tacos or grilled chicken and then add a Tbs. (or two) of this salsa
for more nutrients and fiber.
To make:
In a medium bowl, combine 1/2 cup of finely diced pineapple, 1/2 cup of
finely diced mango, 1/2 cup of finely diced papaya, 1/2 cup of finely diced
red bell pepper, 1/2 cup of finely diced onion, 1 kiwi, diced 1 tsp. of
minced jalapeno, 2 tsp. of chopped cilantro, 1/4 tsp . of red pepper flakes
(or cayenne pepper), 1/4 tsp. of salt and the juice of 1 lime.

Salsa No. 3-
Spicy Pear Salsa!
If your local grocery store is selling pears, make sure to stock up
and make this salsa for a roasted pork loin or turkey breast.
In a medium bowl, combine 2 peeled ripe pears, (Anjou, Bosc or Bartlett)
cut into dice sized pieces. 1/2 red onion, minced, 1 tsp. of jalapeno,
1 tsp. of minced fresh cilantro, 1 Tbs. of lemon juice, 1 Tbs. of fresh
orange juice, salt and pepper to taste and pomegranate seeds.
Pomegranate seeds add a visual effect to this salsa, but if you’re
concerned guests may choke on them, then by all means, don’t add them.

One last tip:
If you plan on having a meatless Superbowl party, then you can still make the
salsas, just make sure to have some chips, pita bread, tortillas and cut up
vegetables on hand, (celery, cucumbers, carrots and jicama slices on hand.
