Cocktails From New Orleans!

The pandemic that’s sweeping across the globe
is causing a lot of events to be cancelled and one
of the biggest is Mardi Gras, also known as
“Fat Tuesday,”

Mardi Gras refers to events of the Carnival celebration,
beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany
(Three Kings Day) and culminating on the day before
Ash Wednesday.
And since there won’t be any celebrating this year in
New Orleans, you can still get in the spirit, (literally
and figuratively).

How?
By making some of the drinks that are served in
New Orleans during Mardi Gras.
And that’s not all, these drinks not only taste great,
but are also great for your health.

Listed below are the ingredients and the recipes
for these easy-to-make drinks.

a) Praline Milk Punch!
Boost moods with this New Orleans mainstay.
* 2 oz. brandy
* 1 oz. Frangelico, Amaretto or praline liqueur
* 1 cup of whole milk
* 1 tsp. confectioner’s sugar
* grated nutmeg
To make:
Add the first 4 ingredients to a cocktail
shaker filled halfway with; shake until chilled and
frothy. Strain into tall glass with ice, then sprinkle
with nutmeg.
Health benefits:
Lift your spirits literally, the milk contains vitamin D,
a nutrient that helps your body’s serotonin levels.


b) Creole Bloody Mary!
Prevent osteoporosis, (thinning bones)
* lime juice and celery salt for the glass
* 1 1/2 oz. vodka
* juice from 1/4 fresh lime
* 4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
* 2 dashes Tabasco hot sauce
* 1/2 cup tomato sauce
* celery salt, to taste
* cayenne pepper, to taste
* black pepper, to taste
To make:
Rim glass with lime juice and celery salt:
set aside. Add all ingredients to the cocktail
shaker filled halfway with ice. Shake well; strain
into prepared glass.

c) Strawberry Pimm’s Cup!
Quiet an unsettled stomach (nausea).
* 2 thick slices cucumber
* 1 strawberry, stem removed
* 1 1/2 oz. Pimm’s no. 1 liqueur
* 4 oz. natural ginger ale
To make:
Add cucumber and strawberry to a glass; muddle
well. Fill glass halfway with ice. Add Pimm’s,
then top with ginger ale.
If you suffer from nausea-drink some ginger ale.
Ginger contains anti-inflammatory properties.
Look for a top quality ginger ale, like Bruce Cost
or Reed’s.

d) Frozen Hurricane!
Protect your eyesight.
* 1 oz. light rum
* 1 oz. dark rum
* 2 oz. orange juice
* 1/2 cup of lemon sorbet
* 1 oz. simple syrup
* Ice, as needed
To make:
Add rums, orange juice, sorbet and
simple syrup to blender. Blend until
smooth, adding ice as needed. Pour
mixture into tall glass. Garnish with
lime slice, (if desired)
Health benefits:
Thanks to the lemon sorbet and orange
juice, you’ll give a healthy dose of vitamin C,
a nutrient linked to better vision.
