The holidays, the pandemic, the uncertainty of finances,
spending a lot of time indoors
are making a lot of us anxiety-
ridden.
To ease anxiety without a doctor-prescribed med, head to your local supermarket and put the following foods
on your grocery list.

a) Chocolate-
Eat a square or two of dark chocolate or drink a cup of hot cocoa and cut your risk of chronic stress by as much as 40%. Chocolate contains 2 compounds that increase your brain’s production of calming oxytocin, which is the
“hug hormone.”
Important tip: Don’t skimp on the price, you must buy
a top quality brand of chocolate or hot cocoa.

b) Curry-
Popular spice used in Indian cooking, this spice
which is mixed with ginger, turmeric, coriander and
cumin, and all of these spices spur the release of the
happiness hormones. Add curry to soups, stews, or stir-fries.
Or look for dishes that contain curry in your frozen food section.

c) Sweet Potatoes-
Packed with inulin-a type of fiber that the good bacteria
in your digestive tract uses to produce mood-boosting
serotonin. Add a few servings of sweet potatoes to your daily menus.

d) Beef-
It gets a bad rap as a high fat, unhealthy food, but that’s simply not true.
It (beef) contains a mix of proteins and B vitamins that boost moods by
35% in as little as 3 days.
Beef calms the anxiety center in the brain, making it less
likely that you’ll get rattled by even the smallest irritations.
Choose good quality beef and avoid the sides that goes with burgers:
the fries, milkshakes and sweet desserts. The real culprits that make
you anxious and tense.

e) Edamame-
Cure chronic anxiety in one week just by eating more
edamame. Loaded with potassium, magnesium and
isoflavones- nutrients that soothe the adrenal glands to
tamp down production of the stress hormone cortisol.
Look for fresh edamame or head to the frozen food section
for a bag.
