The Fall Dessert Rx For Better Sleep!
Fall is definitely the time to get your hands on fresh apples and if you’re one who loves
to buy apples, then you may want to use those apples to make a dessert that’s not
only great tasting, but will also help you sleep more soundly.
The dessert-Mini Apple Crisps!
The star of this dessert isn’t the apples, but the oats.
Why are oats the stars?
Nutrients in this grain boost production of soothing hormones to lower
risk of restless sleep by 50%.
The recipe for Mini Apple Crisps:
Ingredients:
1 cup + 1 Tbs. all purpose flour
3/4 cup + 1/3 cup of packed brown sugar
3/4 cup of ol fashioned rolled oats
3/4 cup of chopped walnuts
3/4 cup of butter, leave out on the counter to soften
2 lbs. of apples, peeled, cored, cut into 1/4″ pieces
1/2 cup of apple juice
1 tsp. of ground ginger
To make:
Heat oven to 350*F. Grease one large baking dish or 8 separate small ramekins.
Place them on a baking sheet. Mix 1 cup of flour, 3/4 cup of sugar, oats and nuts.
Rub in the butter until crumbly. Mix the remaining flour and sugar, apples, juice
and ginger; spoon into the baking dish or ramekins. Add the crumbs. Bake 25 to
28 mins.
Calories per serving-480, Prot-5g. Carbs-65g.
If you’re not concerned about weight, add a scoop of whipped cream or Ice cream
to your bowl.
Another tip: Eat this dessert about 60 to 90 minutes before you turn in, doing so
will help you get to sleep and stay asleep.
