Many of us eat food and hope it provides us with nourishment,
but what about eating certain foods that’ll hone in on a specific problem.

Specific problem?
Yes, say you’re experiencing blue moods or persistent sadness,
then you should add more fatty fish to your daily menus.
And if you want stronger bones-eat mashed potatoes.
Yes, mashed potatoes, but a different type of mashed potatoes.

A different type of mashed potatoes?
Made with both potatoes and rutabagas.
And if you want to avoid a common senior ailment known as
thinning bones (osteoporosis) start adding more rutabagas
to your daily menus.

This root vegetable can keep bones healthy and strong as you get older.
How so? Rutabaga is loaded with strontium, a trace mineral that is shuttled
to bones to fill in any brittle patches.

So now that you’re aware of the benefits of rutabaga, here’s a recipe
for mashed potatoes, which can be served as a side dish to that
oven-baked fried chicken or rib roast.

The recipe for Rutabaga-Potato Mash!
Once family and friends have this dish, they may never want to have
just plain old mashed potatoes again.
Ingredients:
2 pounds of potatoes, (try Yukon), peeled and cubed
1 pound of rutabaga, peeled and cubed
2 cloves of garlic, sliced
2/3 cup of light cream or half and half, (warmed)
1/4 cup of butter, (organic-Kerrygold) leave out to soften
1 Tbs. of chopped fresh dill
To make: In a large pot, combine potatoes, rutabaga and garlic
with enough water to cover by 1″. Turn to high heat, bring to a
boil and then reduce to medium and cook until potatoes and
rutabaga are tender. Drain and return to the pot.
Get out the hand mixer and on medium, beat the potatoes and
rutabagas until smooth. Add the butter, dill, light cream and
a pinch of salt and pepper and beat for another 2 mins.
Transfer to a serving bowl.
