Plant-based milk option for 2022.

If you’ve given up dairy (milk) and are tiring of almond, soy and coconut milk,
perhaps you’ll want to try the new and up and coming milk.

What milk is that?
Potato milk.

If you’re making a face and laughing at the idea of drinking potatoes,
hold on.
Many of you probably balked at the idea of eating kale chips, cauliflower
pizza crusts and baked chick peas (faux peanuts) so why not try “potato
milk?”

The taste may take some getting used to, but adding it to a casserole, stew,
sauce or baked good will actually do your body some good.

What type of good, you ask?
Read on and learn.

a) Lower Blood Pressure-
Potatoes with the skins, are loaded with potassium, a mineral that helps your kidneys
flush out harmful sodium before it can make blood vessels tighten and your pressure rise.
Also eat bananas, low-salt and sugar tomato sauce, prunes, apricots, cooked spinach,
and sweet potatoes to lower high blood pressure.

b) Weight Loss Aid-
Mashed potatoes or French fries certainly don’t seem like foods that’ll help you lose weight,
but if you cook the potatoes, then refrigerate them and eat them the next day, they most
certainly will aid you in your quest to be thinner.
Cooked, then cooled potatoes (or rice or pasta) is called a “resistant-starch” a type of starch
that passes undigested through your digestive tract and helps feed your beneficial gut bacteria.
Plus, potatoes take up a lot of room in your stomach and that helps you feel full faster,
meaning you won’t be able to eat a lot of food, which ultimately results in weight loss.

c) Blue Moods-
Potatoes aren’t given the credit they deserve as a low-cost and effective antidepressant,
but it is. Potatoes contain a number of beneficial nutrients that help you overcome
feelings of hopelessness and sadness.
One tip: Just make sure to eat (or drink) the potato without the other foods that may cause dark
moods and depression, (burgers with white buns, milkshakes and deep-fried apple pies)
Just go for a baked potato (with a pat of butter) or oven roasted potatoes with herbs, seasonings
and olive oil.
And please-
Go back and reread or read our post on SAD (seasonal affective disorder) or blue Winter moods
and some of the foods that’ll help you overcome it.

d) Liver Health-
Worried about the condition of your liver? Drink and eat some potatoes to help get it back
in tip-top shape. Potatoes, in addition to potassium, also contain phosphorous and magnesium,
minerals that cut your risk of pain-triggering tissue inflammation and helps your liver break down
inflammatory wastes and clear them from your liver.

e) Turn Back The Clock-
On your skin. Not mentioned in beauty magazines, but did you know that potatoes
can help tighten and keep skin looking years younger. Potatoes contain a number
of nutrients that contribute to a youthful and glowing face.
Another tip: go back and reread our post on apples, apples too, can help you
look years younger than your actual age.
In fact, mix an apple with a potato and juice them together.

So now, that you know a little more about the “lowly” potato, are you ready to try this as
your new go-to milk, okay then, here’s a recipe.
Peel about 3 to 4 medium-sized potatoes, cut into 2″ cubes, place in a pot, fill it water and
heat the potatoes over medium-high heat, just until they’re a little soft.
Remove from the stove, let the potatoes cool a bit and pour into the blender (with a cup of
the water) add 1 to 2 Tbs. of ground almond, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
Blend until smooth, like the consistency of milk. Pour into a pitcher or container
and use it to make mashed potatoes, a casserole or a healthy smoothie.
And if you make baked goods or eat cereal that requires milk, just leave out the salt
and pepper and put in some vanilla extract, honey or real maple syrup.
Or just start experimenting with herbs, seasonings, fruits and sweeteners and
come up with the recipe you and your family will enjoy most.

That’s it, your new “plant-based” alternative to milk (a dairy product).
