If you plan on taking the kids on a long car trip or swimming in the Ocean
this Summer, then you need the following information.

The following remedies are from Moms who are also doctors.
Doctors who treat the Summer woes that affect kids,
you know, the car sickness, stomach aches, poison Ivy and allergy eyes.

a) Motion Sickness-
Plan on a long car trip this Summer?
Well, it may result in car sickness for your little one.
To combat the nausea- give him (or her) gummy bears.
Candy? No, ginger gummy bears.
You can also bring along some fresh ginger tea, but for convenience,
it’s best to have Ginger gummy bears on hand.
Ginger contains gingerols and shogaols, chemicals that help relax the
intestinal tract, relieving queasiness. One or two gummy bears should work.
Also helpful: Open a window, and have your son or daughter focus on
a distant point on the horizon. This helps nix the sensory mismatch
that causes nausea. Look for ginger gummy drops at Walmart, try the brand
called Tummydrops Natural Ginger.
b) Jellyfish Sting-
If you plan on swimming in a body of water that contains all types of wildlife,
like jellyfish, be prepared.
And to prepare for a jellyfish sting, use the all around household product also
known as baking soda. Scrape out the stingers if you can and then make a paste of
baking soda and water, apply it to the sting, leave on for a 5 to 10 minutes and then
rinse off. You can also use meat tenderizer.
Or head to your local drugstore and buy Sarna lotion.
This lotion contains both menthol and camphor, which help cool
and soothe the affected area.
c) Stomach Woes-
Indigestion. If your child goes overboard on candy or fried dough and needs
relief, give him or her peppermint tea. Peppermint has antispasmodic properties,
that relax muscles in the gastrointestinal tract to ease cramps and discomfort.
Try the Organic peppermint tea sold at iHerb.com.
d) Constipation-
Another issue that may come up this Summer, stomach problems and hard stools,
and if your child needs something to relieve it, try muffins.
Prune muffins.
Chop and then blend prunes into a batter of muffin mix, bake and then
give your child one or two. Fiber-rich prunes soften stool -so it’s passed more easily.
e) Allergy Eyes-
Whether it’s pollen or some type of reaction to a plant or shrub, kids will get the itchy
eyes at some point in the Summer and to help them get relief, offer them
cucumbers.
First, put a sterile saline solution in their eyes and then have your child
lie back and place a cucumber slice over each eye, (tell him or her, it’s a spa
treat). The cold from the cucumber slice calms the irritation and slows water
retention to take away the swelling.
f) Poison Ivy-
Any parent with a kid (s) dreads the day he or she gets into poison Ivy,
and the days that follow.
To ease his or her’s impending suffering, get them into a warm bath
filled with oatmeal.
No, not quick oats or slow-cooked, but colloidal oatmeal.
This type of oatmeal contains compounds called avenanthramides-
that reduce inflammation and calms the itchiness.
Have your child soak for 20 mins. He or she may have to do this
twice a day. Look for this type of oatmeal, called Aveeno Baby Soothing
Bath Treatment, at most drugstores, like Walgreen, CVS or Rite Aid.
