Christmas Wine and Gourmet Food Gifts For Last Minute Shoppers!
If you’re planning on buying gourmet food or bottles of wine for a friend or family
member for Christmas there are only about 5 days left.
And if you’re also hoping to save a few dollars on these gifts, you’re in luck,
listed below are some tips on how to buy wine and gourmet food without
going broke.
a) A Glass of The Bubbly-
And by bubbly, we mean Champagne. If you plan on giving a bottle or two as
a gift, or if you plan on buying it for yourself, (New Year’s Eve) you may
want to head to the grocery store.
Yes, that’s right, heading to a grocery store instead of the wine or liquor
store can save you a bit of money. Many grocery stores offer great sales
on their own brands of liquor, and you can then stack that sale price with a digital
coupon from the store’s website or app.
Some stores even offer another 20% or 30% off if you buy a certain number of
bottles.
Also helpful: If the Champagne isn’t to your liking, just choose Italian prosecco
or Spanish cava. These are delicious sparkling wines that often taste better than
Champagne and are much lower in price.
b) Shop On This Day-
Do you typically buy wine and hard liquor on Frid. or Sat? Big mistake, the best time
to find bargains is on a Tues. Retailers know most people want their wine on the
weekends, so they mark up the price. And as for Tues. Many retailers aren’t selling that
much, so they mark it down or even let you talk them into selling it at reduced prices,
(especially if you buy a few bottles or even a case).
c) Head To These Stores-
You may be aware that Costco and Trader Joe’s sell wine, but did you know
that they get their wine from top wineries and sell it for as little as $10 a bottle.
Costco sells it under the name Kirkland and Trader Joe’s sells it under the name
Charles Shaw.
d) Go Online-
Although not as popular as they were a decade ago, many people still use
Groupon. And if you want savings on wine (and other adult beverages), head
to Groupon.com.
e) Enhance The Flavors-
If flavored wines like sangria are something you want to purchase but feel they’re
too expensive, you can make them yourself.
Go online to youtube.com and type flavored wine or sangria in the search bar.
Using herbs, spices, citrus zests and citrus fruits on that $7 or $10 bottle
of wine, can make it seem much more expensive.
e) Gourmet Food-
Nothing complements a glass of wine like gourmet food and if you
want to give your loved a gourmet food gift, but are frightened by
the price, just do the following…
Head to stores like T.J. Maxx or HomeGoods and pick up everything
from fancy salts, bacon-flavored olive oil to gluten-free pastas.
These stores order tons of these foods, then sell them at a huge discount.
And one more money-saving tip: Plan on going to these stores in the morning,
so you can grab more bargains. Stores restock before opening each day, so you’ll
find the best selections if you go early.
And lastly, Although we’re not sure, but if you have an Ocean State Job Lot
or Ollies in your neck of the woods, go there as well, for a number of low-cost
gourmet food items.
f) An Idea On The Wrapping-
No need to buy an expensive box or letting the clerk wrap your gifts,
all you need to do is visit a Dollar store.
Head to a dollar store and pick up some plastic crates, pails, tin cans
and ribbons. After that, just place some flavored popcorn in the tin can
with movie tickets or place some pasta in a decorative crate and write
“An Escape To Italy” on a piece of stationary and the ribbons,
decorate the wine and Prosecco with it.
Doing this allows you keep more of your money in your pocket or bank account.
And one last tip: If you want more tips on how to score clothes, gift cards,
