Turkey Day Cocktails!

As the temperatures turn colder, many of us will turn to the foods
of the Fall. You know, foods like nuts, apples, pomegranates and
pumpkins and if you’re one who enjoys the fall and the fruits
that are so prevalent, then how would you like some “adult beverages”
that use these fruits?

With the Winter holidays almost here, we’ll be enjoying parties, big dinners
and special holidays, it’s a perfect time for cocktails. And the cocktails listed
below use some of the aforementioned “fall” fruits.

Cocktail No. 1-
a) Pomegranate Margaritas-
Do you think margaritas should only be served in warm climates?
Not anymore, this tart, sweet and salty drink is sure to get any type of
party moving and shaking.
To make: Rub the rims of 2 or more glasses with a lime wedge and then swirl
with some coarse salt around the rims.
Next step-In an ice-filled shaker, mix 2 oz. tequila, 1 oz. orange liqueur and 1/3
cup unsweetened pomegranate juice. Shake vigorously; strain into glasses and top
with club soda.
Important tip: This is enough for 2 servings, if you need more, just double or even triple
the amounts. And if you’re expecting, 3, 5 or even 15 people to your get-together,
ask them to bring along an extra cocktail shaker.
b) Apple Pie Cooler-
There will be a lot of apple-based desserts in the next few months and if you’re
concerned about your waistline, don’t despair, just avoid the rich desserts and
drink your calories instead. This drink combines apple flavoring, lemon and
vanilla for a pie-flavored treat.
To make: In an ice-filled shaker, mix 2 oz. vodka, 2 tsp. of vanilla extract,
3 oz. of apple cider, 1 oz. of schnapps and 2 tsp. of half-and-half.
Shake vigorously; strain into a ice-filled glasses and garnish with crushed
graham crackers. Serves 2.
The graham crackers serve as a sort of crust, (pie crust).
Important tips:
If you can find vanilla vodka, use it. If not, just use a little vanilla extract.
Don’t have any apple cider? Use some apple juice.
c) Pecan Pie Martini-
Vodka, vanilla and maple syrup give you the taste of a slice of pecan pie,
without the high calories.
To make:
In an ice-filled shaker, mix 2 oz. vanilla vodka, 3 Tbs. of pure maple syrup
and 1 oz. of dark rum. Shake vigorously; strain into glasses. Top with lightly
whipped cream and a mixture of finely chopped pecans and crushed graham
crackers. Serves 2.
