Today, plant-based foods (especially burgers) are all the rage.
And if you’re interested in trying plant-based burgers, but aren’t sure
if the products on supermarket shelves are really good for you
or just concerned about shelling out your hard-earned money,
here’s a recipe to try at home, using inexpensive ingredients,
available at any grocery store.

This burger is made with seeds, beans, oats and spices.

The burger:
The plant-based veggie burger!

Ingredients:
In a large bowl, add the following…
1/4 cup of sunflower seeds (chopped)
2 cups of beans (kidney or black) or use both.
Make sure to rinse and drain well, and then
mash them.
1/2 cup of minced onions
Feel free to use garlic and chopped peppers, as well
1 Tbs. of oats*
2 Tbs. low-salt ketchup or tomato sauce
Feel free to add your favorite seasonings…
turmeric, paprika, oregano or cayenne pepper
* add additional oats if mixture is to watery.
—————————————————————————–
To make:
Stir all of the ingredients and form into a large ball
and leave in the refrigerator for an hour or two, and
allow the ingredients to mesh or just form into 6 or 7 patties
and place on a baking sheet, (sprayed with cooking spray)
and bake at 350*F for 20 mins., flip, press flat and bake
for another 10 mins.
Remove from the oven and place the burgers on whole-wheat
buns, or gluten-free buns, or in between 2 romaine lettuce leaves.
And lastly, add a slice of tomato and/or dairy-free cheese to really
dress it up and add more flavor.

That’s it- a recipe to help you in your new-found dedication to
eating less meat.
Good Luck!
