Save Money and Your Health At The Grocery Store!
The number one complaint many people give as to why they
can’t eat a healthier diet, is Price.
That’s right, many people feel that the only way to get healthier is
to buy your produce, meats and other foods at Whole Foods or go online
to Thrive market.
But today, this simply isn’t true. Many supermarket are doing everything
to try and get you to shop at their stores and one of the ways they’re doing
it, is by offering great deals on everything from produce to meats to supplements.
So, if price is the obstacle that’s keeping you from eating healthier,
pleas to continue to read and learn how to save hundreds of dollars
and perhaps, even your health.
1) More Produce Please-
We know, kiwi, avocados and spaghetti squash can be expensive,
but don’t get discouraged. Today, many stores are getting produce
directly from farmers, and that means lower prices for you.
So, if want to increase the amount of produce you eat without
going over your budget- head to stores like Aldi, Wegman’s,
and Walmart.
2) Day Old Produce-
Many stores have a ton of fruits and vegetables that don’t sell within
the allotted time period and some of it (produce) is tossed and some
is given to churches and the homeless.
But some stores have gotten smart and realized that they can make
money on day old (or two-day old) produce.
Misshapen produce or produce with a few brown spots can cost
as much as 50% to 70% off the regular price.
And if you’re squeamish about a few brown spots, don’t be,
you can always freeze aged bananas (and use them to make
smoothies) use green squash in stir-fries or butternut squash to make
oven-baked fries or add them to a gluten-free brownie mix.
And one last tip: Head online to ImperfectFoods.com and shop
for slightly used produce.
3) Cheaper Meats-
if meat is still on your menu and you want to pay lower costs-
head to Costco.
It (Costco) does its own inspection for food safety.
And just as you read in the previous tip, look for
bargains at Stop “N Shop, Shoprite, Publix and Kroger’s.
Many of these stores have a sale on meat, to make room for the new
meat coming in. Check with a store clerk or manager, as some
stores have sales on Wednesday and some on Sundays.
Another tip: if you don’t have a freezer, you may want to invest in one
and stock up on meat and other foods, like gluten-free breads and produce.
4) Aldi is King-
Simply put, Aldi is doing everything in its power to distance itself
from the other stores and that’s means you can get produce, nuts,
seeds, cheese, meats, canned goods- (beans and salmon)
gluten-free products and even wine at major discounts.
5) The Dollar Store-
If you think the only types of food being sold at dollar stores are
overly processed or loaded with sugar, you’re wrong.
Yes, you can find soda and sweet treats at the dollar store, but
you can also find canned salmon, tuna, plain yogurt, beans,
frozen fruits, brown rice, vegetables and bottled water.
So, if you only have a few dollars to spend, head to your local dollar
store and buy a few items, (healthy items).
Also important: Make sure to read labels, if there’s a list of at least
5 or more ingredients, don’t purchase it.
6) Bargains At Amazon-
You may remember that Amazon now owns Whole Foods and
that’s some great news for those who love bargains.
To find out more on how to find great deals, head to Amazon.com.
One more tip: Amazon sells a lot of their shelf-stable items for prices
that are way less than supermarkets, so if you and your family
use a lot of tea or certain kinds of nuts, then it may be wise to become
an Amazon Prime member.
That’s it- Eliminating the excuses for not being able to eat healthy.
